The Chinese have a peculiar way of writing their sign boards in English. They literally translate them from their language. So, these sign boards not only sound funny but convey hilarious meaning in atrocious grammar .
So, "Travel makes people merry civilization."

In cases like this, I wish I can read Chinese well.
Oh, you are also Chinese illiterate like me. I feel cheated when I was sent to a national school way back in the 50s. My parents were 'too nationalistic" and believed in sacrificing my mother tongue. Now, I feel like in limbo, neither a Malaysian (full fledged) nor a 'pendatang" because I can't speak the latter's language !
Feel the same way too but I did pick up Chinese later. Can speak a little, read a little and can even write my name. ha! Ha!
